Our standard contract includes the option for a probationary period, and employment in the US, for better or worse, is at-will, so please treat those situations as "indefinite." Only say "temporary" for interim roles or for roles with clear end dates that will be part of the employment contract.

To be "full-time" the person must always work at least 30 hours per week. Only full-time employees are eligible for health benefits. They may be "exempt" or non-exempt" from overtime - which also determines whether or not they have to track their time and fill out a biweekly time sheet - depending on their pay rate.
